New York, New York!

Well Dykes, guess what?!?! I finally made it to OMFG NEW YORK.

(Well I am in upstate NY, but the photo is pretty!)

So far, it has been an amazing experience. There is a wonderful LGBTQ Center, and I am on the membership committee! Wheeee for LGBTQ PRIDE!

The people there are wonderful, and I have made some awesome new friends. There are groups, and there was already a piano bar event! Whee!!! Further, the straight people here are gasp! LGBTQ friendly. Of course there are bigots everywhere, but this place is nothing like SC. What a relief!

Also, guess what? I am OMFG EATING HEALTHIER! Healthy food is in abundance here, and I can finally indulge my being a totally stereotypical lesbian and go all veggie on y'all.

Also, I can eat healthier and at affordable prices, whereas down south where I am from, everyone is into fried chicken

Ham hocks
and well...you get the picture. Stuff that just ain't good for ya! But never fear, fresh eating is here!

Also, and the best part is...drum rolllll...puhleaaasssee...

Getting Messages From Hot Girls After Changing My Location.

You heard right, lovely lessies. The more gay friendly environment means that more people nearby are out and proud, and, therefore, ready to hit up a screaming dyke like me!

All in all, New York Rox my Sox! Stay tuned for more!

Officially Open

What up lesbos?!? Hope you are all well, and that you had a great
Independence Day

If you live here in America and you celebrate.

I've had lots going on. Firstly, I've been busy working ALL THE TIME.

I have two writing jobs and a day job, so I am a very busy queermo these days.

On a more interesting note, I've also been

falling in love.

Which is great, but we are taking it really slow. Also, guess what? For the first time in a long time, I found a woman who shares my views on open relationships.

So, yes, as of last night, my new girlfriend and I are gasp!

Officially Open.

We have yet to discuss, you know, the all important Rules, though, so  I am not going to do anything with anyone until we have those down pat. This is a huge relief though, lessies, because, of course, as per usual, the relationship is long distance.

Now, this isn't a problem for me, because good things are worth waiting a reasonable amount of time for. Plus, I have changed my San Francisco plans to the closer and more practical gayborhood of Wilton Manors
(actual phot of gorgeous lofts in Wilton Manors!)

in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. While I wait for my lovely lady to be able to move I can go clubbing

and get to know the gayborhood.

Of course, I'd rather have her there with me. She's awesome, and the thought of being without her for any amount of time makes my heart break.

However, in the meantime, just because she is that awesome, and we are that sure of our own feelings for one another, I can have the occasional tryst with a pretty girl

without a shred of guilt. Hell, we'll even talk about it.

How you like them apples, hmmm? I know I like them quite a bit. Who needs monogamy?

At least for now, I don't. Being in an open relationship does not mean you don't love your partner enough to be faithful. On the contrary, it takes more love and trust than a monogamous relationship to be able to know that you are the only person for your partner, no matter who she shares sexual experiences with. I am glad that I found someone who feels the same. Thanks, babe!

 I, for one, am
Proud to be Open.

Series: Dykin' It Up: Episode 10: Gaydar. Yes, It's Real

Hello, my dykedellic sisters! Hope you are all having an enjoyable LGBT Pride Season thus far! Best time of the year. It also offers an almost unending supply of Pride Festivals

at which to pick up hot chics if you are a single dyke

like me. But...how do you know if a girl is gay outside super gay environments?

After all, Pride comes but once a year. The rest of the time, you have to OMFG WORK to find other lady lovin' ladies. Because, unfortunately, thanks to sheer numbers, the next chic you hit on outside the gay bar is probably going to be hopelessly GASP!
STRAIGHT.
(Yes, it's Reese Witherspoon, sue me)

And I think we all know that nothing puts a gay girl on the prowl into a never- ending funk

like hitting on a girl only to find out she's straight. She is off limits for obvious reasons, so this seemingly little detail is a huge deal. But..Never Fear! Gaydar is here.

Yep, you heard me right, dykes. Your gaydar can save the day every time, and you need to use it. Yes, it's real. Y'all know what I'm talkin' about, too. It's that unmistakable
BLUE STREAK OF RECOGNITION
when you meet a girl and automatically know that she is OMFG QUEER. Doesn't matter if she looks femme

we still know. We always know. Chances are she knows you're queer, too. Yep, gaydar is real. No one knows what it is, we just know that it is. So what are you waiting for? Next time your gaydar goes off, just go for it! After all, the worst she can do is say no...and hey, we're all due for a happy ending...

RIGHT???

So don't let anyone tell you your gaydar is all in your head, lady lovers. It isn't. I promise you. We are almost always right.

GAYDAR IS REAL. USE IT.

Am I in LOVE?!?!?!

Heya Dykes! I know it's been a hot minute since I posted, but I was away

with only shitty motel internet. Apologies for the delay! I promise I got something that will make up for the wait! You see, homos, Shannon just might be on her way to gasp!
Falling in LOVE!

Well, seeing as we just met yesterday, this proclamation is certainly more than a little premature. It is promising, though, because y'all know how long Shannon has been waiting to find OMFG THE ONE. You know, the key that fits into her ignition.

There have been many times it seemed this person had been found, but to no avail, so of course I am treading carefully. This time, though, it feels like it just might be that perfect balance.

Y'all know what I am talking about, right? Sometimes you just know, no doubts, no reservations. Looks very promising, as this person embodies all the things I love about queer life and then some. Firstly, and most importantly, Atheism.

And you fags know that is just about the biggest requirement dating wise for me. Even better, my feeling that

is shared, so I never have to worry about being offensive or respecting something that deserves nothing but contempt.

Secondly, Feminism.

with the understanding that

thanks to the current GOP war on women, and is socially responsible enough to do something about it, so, of course, this person is also an Activist Like ME.

What more could I ask for, you ask? Well, volunteering at

with as big a passion for LGBT Equality as I have

Annnnddd...drumroll please! As if that wasn't enough, Vegetarian Eating!

Y'all know I love some health food that keeps you looking good and feeling even better. With my recent commitment to juicing

someone who shares my commitment to healthy, environmentally responsible eating definitely rocks, and is the tastiest icing on an already perfect cake.

Oh, and as if all that weren't enough, my Non Monogamous Ways are embraced!
Again, what more could I ask for?

Hooray for Compatible Lesbian Love!

Series: Dykin' It Up: Episode 7: The Later in Life Lesbian

Well, here's something a little different for the 7th installment in our Dykin' It Up series, 'mos. Today, we are going to talk about the Later In Life Lesbian.

Ok, dykes. I admit it. I rarely think of these lovely ladies who wait well into adulthood to come out. I am one of those authentic, born this way gays who couldn't fathom being with a man. To that end, the thought never crosses my  mind. I've dated three women who sorta kinda had this story, and all three times it was a disaster, so I wrote off the possibility of it working. However, a few days ago, a great, big, glaring light bulb came on.

(shocking I know)

I ran across a totally awesome blog by a truly rad later in life lesbian named Mary. She is the proprietor of Gay Girl Dating Coach, and this post grabbed me so much that I left several posts on her blog, as well as directed a couple of buddies in the same boat to her, and, of course, I am dedicating this post to her, because I think she offers a very healthy perspective on this issue. Most traditional, lifelong gays, including myself, have a hard time with dating someone whose story is so vastly different, and that's ok. As Mary says, we all take our own paths. However, there is a way to voice things without hurting others. Mary calls the dykes who turn their noses up in a rude way Mean Girls.

And, in a way, she is right. We traditional gays have a sense of what I like to call "gay elitism," simply because we knew earlier, and we are suspicious of those who do not fit. She spoke of a hurtful comment left where she was accused of being LESS OF A LESBIAN.

I was a bit taken aback at that, because, no matter the issues I might have dating wise, I know quite a few later in life lesbians who are just as dykey as I am, so this assertion based upon one's past is patently false. Moral of the story: we're all different. Don't hate. Don't judge. Just do you. We're all dykes, and we're all in this together.

And, oh yeah, her totally fab blog is going into my side bar here, so read it, dammit! And like her Facebook Page. You won't be sorry!

Breaking Up Is Hard to Do....

But sometimes you gotta do it. Yup, you heard me right, lessies. Shannon is single again.

It wasn't easy to do, and originally it was just an *ahem* break, if you will, but the way it turned out, it seemed that there were too many of my aforementioned dealbreakers that this person embodied that were never going to go away.

And, of course, there was also the meddling ex

who had my now ex girl's Facebook login information and used said information to cruise my page, pump me for information, and basically became

as such people usually do in these situations. And I was just supposed to be OMFG TOTALLY OK WITH THIS. I also have reason to believe she had access to financial information as well. I am far from an OMFG SUPER DUPER CONTROLLING AND DEMANDING girlfriend, but I do have standards about respect and what I find to be acceptable in relationships, and too much of that was violated in this situation to really go on. Was it difficult? Of course. Was it for the best? Without a doubt. So, freethinking, childless lesbians, hit me up. Shannon is on the market again.
